Lo V - Episode II - Pepper Shredder MK II

UPDATE:

The design of the Pepper Shredder MK II was changed in many points. The new design is PCB based (LoV-Standard PCB) and the 12AU7 tubes were replaced with a 12AT7 in the first two stages and a 12AU7 in the last two stages. A tone-stack is now also part of the design and therefor the last stage was changed to a cathode follower.

Design:

Just like the VanillaOverdrive the PepperShredder is designed for the use of 12U7 / 12AU7 tubes running at 12 V. It has one more gain stage than the VanillaOverdrive and it sounds more heavy but it can also sound soft - but just if you want it.

Sound:

Pure Heavy but no Nu-Metal ! If used with a real 12U7 the Pepper will have a little bit more bass but it will work of course perfectly with a 12AU7 too.

Application:

The Pepper can be used as a tube-preamp / overdrive or as an booster. If it is used in front of an another amp which has a full tone-stack it is recommended not to build the Pepper with a tone-stack too - or just with a "little" tone-stack. It sounds best if used without a tone-stack. Alos please keep in mind that each tone-stack needs a little power to work and the more complex the tone-stack gets the more power is needed and this power is missing at the end. If you really want to build the Pepper with a tone-stack make sure to make it switchable so it can get bypassed if not needed.

How To Build:

Again of course very simple as one can see on the picture - pure point-to-point wiring. All resistors are 1/4 W metalfilm types which are recommended for this kind of amp but of course carbin composit resistors can get used too if wanted.

And again: keep it simple and keep the wires short. Try to avoid long leeds and wires. There is also need need for the use of shielded wires - contrariwise they could "kill" the sound.

If you use a good 12 V / 12,6 V powersupply the Pepper is very quiet, no massive his and also no hum.

How To Build MK II:

Version 2 of the Pepper Shredder was build on PCB. Unfortunatly we do not have pictures ready yet so for the moment please refer the picture of the Vanilla Overdirve in the previouse chapter.

Alternatives

Besides the official releases of the PepperShredder, there is also an unofficial version, in which the power supply is designed for 24 V and a Tone-Stack from a Marshall 18 watt is used. This illustrated version was tested by us and works fine, but it is currently not supported - say there is no kit and further support available.
