Modding - Stage III
A quite simple but very effective modification is the change
of the output tranny. Like I mentioned in the previous text
the original tranny is driven rather hard to the limit after
the mods from stage 2. This is not the optimum for a good
sound. Furthermore the tranny is not of high-quality; it should
be clear from the price of the amp it couldn't be otherwise.
A new high grade output transformer improves the sound all
down the line and is strongly recommended for anyone who wants
to use his junior in a serious manner.
The Hammond 125CSE for example is recommended. It can handle
about 8 Watts and has much more iron than the stock transformer.
The swap is simple, you just need to drill another hole for
bolting the new transformer to the chassis and solder some
wires.
Primary:
Stock transformer: 0-7,5kOhms White - Yellow
Hammond 125CSE: Blue - Brown
Secondary: (Connections on the PCB with
the output jacks)
Stock transformer: 0 – 4 – 8 – 16 Ohms Black
– Brown – Red - Orange
Hammond 125 CSE: Black – Green – Yellow - White
That's it !
