The world’s first dedicated guitar loudspeaker and a part of musical history. Back in the 1950s, Celestion witnessed the emergence of a new breed of musician – the electric guitarist – and responded to their needs for a rugged, reliable loudspeaker by modifying the G12 radio speaker. The unique tonal character of the Celestion Blue, combined with the valve amps of the time, helped to define the electric guitar as we know it today. Variations of the Blue were actually released in several different liveries, including chrome, red and silver. Used by many classic amplifier manufacturers of the time, it was the speaker’s adoption by Vox for their AC30 that ensured the Blue’s place in history. The Blue has a bright, lively character with a carefully controlled bottom end and shimmering highs which remains popular and distinctive to this day. Loaded into a single 12" or 2 x 12" cabinet, this legendary loudspeaker suits a wide range of playing styles.
Following the great reviews we received for the Gold 12", we realised there was also a need for a speaker that conveyed the Alnico mellowness of the original Blue, with the speed and response of a 10" driver. The G10 Gold is the ultimate 10" speaker, blending unmistakable Alnico class with a rich low-end, creamy midrange and vintage chiming top-end. Springy, warm, revealing and highly expressive, it can be used singly or in pairs to add a classy sheen to any amp, or in a 4x10 configuration for higher volume depth, warmth and shimmer, with less of the boom associated with 4x12 cabinets.
Many other manufacturers have tried to recreate the Celestion Blue sound in a higherpowered driver, and some have come close. But only Celestion has the experience and know-how to emulate the tone and response of its own, Alnico classic in a modern driver that’s perfect for single or multiple applications in cabinets or combos. What limited the power handling of the Original Blue was the material used in the construction of the voice coil. However, after hundreds of hours of testing and countless prototypes, Celestion has developed a new coil that can withstand higher levels of power but leaves the tone unaffected. Such a relatively simple, yet important development, lies at the heart of a truly remarkable new guitar loudspeaker.
